The successful makers of Fondue-Burg Hospental are expanding to Andermatt. From December 2024, cheese will be spread and fondue stirred in the new restaurant "The Cheese Loft Andermatt" in the historic Hotel Monopol.
Top quality doesn't always have to be expensive, says initiator Ercolani and promises: "For many day tourists, families and locals, a visit to a restaurant in Andermatt has long since become a luxury. We want to set an example with truly disruptive prices." This is mainly possible because the Monopol is now relying on a self-service concept, thus saving on staff costs.
And what if it suddenly gets busy at lunchtime, for example? The host: "Then the short queue is worth it, because our price-performance ratio is unbeatable. The whole thing is set up like a market hall or a Christmas market, uncomplicated and you eat at high tables with bar stools or at high tables. This quickly creates a good atmosphere and you get to know people. Due to its size, the Monopol is the perfect place for this concept."
What has long been tried and tested in the city in places like Tibits or Hiltl should also be possible in the mountains. The advantage: no long waiting times, anyone coming back from the ski slopes at lunchtime doesn't have to go hungry for long. Food is served continuously from 11.30 am to 9.30 pm.
Raclette, fondue and meat
From December, the Monopol will be using show cooking: cheese will be removed from the loaf and fondue will be cooked in a large pot - live in front of the guests. The special feature: You can choose your raclette with different toppings. "You're not spoiled for choice in the new restaurant," says Ercolani. "As in the Fondue-Burg Hospental, we offer consistently little but the best quality in the Monopol." For meat lovers, there is also a Swiss beef soup that is freshly prepared every day. And if you order fondue, you get it as a single portion in a small caquelon.
Finally: La Curva Bar is being reactivated
The former pearl of Andermatt, the legendary cocktail bar La Curva, is coming back to life: "When I talk to Andermatt legends like Bernhard Russi, I hear the greatest stories about this bar," says Ercolani. "The location, the interior and the flair are unique - simply iconic." Cocktails, wine, beer, good music, great atmosphere and people from all walks of life: La Curva is set to become Andermatt's iconic bar once again.
